Vautier to replace Piscopo for Barcelona

23 October 2009

As Edoardo Piscopo starts his GP2 Asia Series career in Abu Dhabi next weekend, the Italian is replaced for this season's final two races by Tristan Vautier. The Frenchman will therefore be making his Formula Two debut as the curtain comes down on the 2009 season in Spain.

Vautier makes the jump up to F2 from Formula Palmer Audi (FPA) and hopes to make the most of the experience at the Circuit de Catalunya. "This is a very good opportunity for me," said the 20-year-old, who led much of the first half of this season's FPA championship before eventually falling to fourth place.

"I'm hoping to race in Formula Two next year, so this is a great chance to learn the car and get an idea of how the championship works and how competitive I can be; I'm not setting myself any targets, I'm just focussing on doing my best, learning the car and improving lap by lap. I've adapted to different cars in the past but the F2 field is very strong, so I'm not going to set any precise objectives."

Tristan went on to admit that he has been blessed with luck by being able to make the most of an official test day ahead of the final race.

"I'm delighted to welcome Tristan to F2 for the final round of 2009," added Formula Two Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer. "Tristan has really impressed me in FPA this season with his speed, racecraft and attitude, and could easily have won the title. He knows F2 will be tough but I have no doubt he will do a very good job, particularly with a test day at Barcelona in preparation."
