Having placed his hands on a cool £50,000 scholarship prize for winning this season's Formula Palmer Audi (FPA) title, Britain's Richard Plant is now looking to progress to Formula 2 next year.
Having clinched the FPA crown at Snetterton, 19-year-old Plant is trying his upmost to secure a position on next year's F2 grid after being awarded with a 3-lap demonstration run in the Williams-built car.
"Formula Two is a whole new ball game for me," Plant said. "I'm going to be a small fish in a big pond and it will be hard to be right at the front because of how competitive the series is - but that's how racing goes. I think a lot of people are looking at F2 right now, especially if Andy Soucek gets into Formula One - not even GP2 can guarantee an F1 test as Formula Two does, so it could be an even better field than last year."
Richard has also been invited to the final rounds in Barcelona next weekend, attending as a guest of MotorSport Vision Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer. "Going to Barcelona as a guest will be strange," Plant continued. "I suppose it will make me want to race but it will also help me prepare for the challenges I face next year.
"To be honest, it will be really inspirational. I remember two years ago, watching Tim Bridgman doing donuts after winning the FPA championship and wishing it could be me - and last weekend it was! Who knows, in two years' time I could turn around and say, 'I watched Andy Soucek collect the F2 title - and now I'm doing it!'"
