Brundle Sr. to help son with track learning

07 October 2009

Alex Brundle is looking forward to a final challenge in Spain at the end of the season as the inaugural year of the new-look Formula Two championship comes to a close at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya. The son of former Formula One driver Martin is current ranked as Britain's third F2 driver behind Jack Clarke and the late Henry Surtees.

"I think I have been massively unfortunate at times this season," Alex explained. "When I think back, I should have had two points finishes at Oschersleben and the shunt that I had at Spa probably prevented me from getting another points finish; there is a big discrepancy between what I should have got and what I have got but that's the way it goes sometimes.

"The important thing is that I have shown potential rather than an inability to run at the front. I think the trained eye can see that - I have shown I can run at the front at places like Spa and Imola against some very experienced drivers - some of these guys are three, four or five years older than me and I expect to be at their level of consistency sooner rather than later."

How will the 19-year-old prepare ahead of 2009's final pair of races? "I am really looking forward to going to Spain - Barcelona is an absolutely mega track," Brundle continued. "My dad also knows the F1 circuits really well and it helps massively to go through every bump and detail before the weekend - hopefully we can do that and I am confident I can show good pace there."
