Identical times at top of first practice
04 September 2009 / Results / PhotosOnly rarely do drivers set the same time down to the thousandth, although that's exactly what happened for Julien Jousse and Mikhail Aleshin in first practice at Oschersleben. The duo lapped the German track with matching results as Wickens, championship leader Soucek and Britain's Jason Moore rounded out the top five.
The half-hour session began at 9am local time in Germany, with practice being an important first opportunity to pick up track data as well as develop car setups. With Spain's Andy Soucek leading the championship by 22 points from Canada's Robert Wickens, there are just six races remaining in the campaign including those this weekend.

It was in fact third placed Wickens who led proceedings until the last moments when Jousse, followed by Aleshin, both improved on his time before matching each other's best of 1:21.514. Soucek's fourth best representation was just over three tenths of a second down on the best, although the Madrid driver had been in sixth for most of the session.
Moore's top five lap time was endeavour of the morning, pushing Tobias Hegewald to sixth spot with de Marco, Pavlovic, Vasiliauskas and Iaconelli completing the top ten runners. Pavlovic spun off twice, however, with several drivers joining him; Gandolfi, Palmer, Piscopo and Sanchez all experienced agricultural excursions as did Gachnang, as the cousin of F1 driver Sébastien Buemi ran wide and almost off at Turn 13.
Palmer set the second-best time for a British driver in 14th with Alex Brundle 16th, Jack Clarke 20th, new boy Ollie Hancock 23rd and Tom Gladdis the 25th and final of the competitors.
