Championship leader Andy Soucek remains optimistic after a near four-hour test session at Donington Park on Tuesday. The Spaniard, who holds a seven-point lead over Canadian Robert Wickens in the standings, is the quickest driver heading into Rounds 9 and 10 of the championship this weekend.
With the second half of the championship due to start at Donington, Soucek is aware that there are as many races remaining in 2009 as the number to have already taken place but feels comfortable with the knowledge of Tuesday's results. "Today was a good day," he said at the end of the test.
"We made progress with the car and came away with a very good time compared to the rest of the field. We tried a lot of things with the setup and finally ended up with a great car but there is still work to do."
With racing always a different kettle of fish to testing, does Andy believe the advantage will remain on Saturday and Sunday? "It wasn't really a surprise to set such a good time as we were very quick in the morning on old tyres but, for sure, it's not going to be as comfortable for me at the weekend," he explained. "Everything can still change but today gives me a lot of confidence before the races and hopefully I can extend my championship lead."
