Massa saddened by Surtees tragedy

Felipe Massa has released his own message of sympathy for Henry Surtees after the 18-year-old son of former F1 Champion John was killed in an accident during a Formula 2 race at Brands Hatch on Sunday.

Having finished on the podium on Saturday, Surtees' car was running behind that of Jack Clarke when the latter crashed at Westfield corner. A loose wheel from the accident then bounced back into the path of Surtees, which directly hit the driver's head.

'I heard about Henry Surtees' death this morning and it really moved me a lot,' reads a statement from Ferrari's Massa. 'I'm so sorry for this tragedy and I'm close to his family in this moment of great sorrow.

These things remind us how much safety has to remain the priority on the track and in all the other places of motorsport. Over the last years much has been done, but we can't be inattentive.'
