
Formula 2 governing body the FIA has released a message of condolence for the Surtees family after 18-year-old Henry, son of 1964 F1 World Champion John, was tragically killed in Brands Hatch's Formula 2 race on Sunday.
As Jack Clarke lost control and crashed at the quick Westfield corner on the Grand Prix section of the Kent circuit, Surtees collided with a flying rear wheel from the accident which struck him on the helmet before careering into the crash barriers at Sheene curve.
The FIA's Monday statement reads:
'Following yesterday's tragic accident, the FIA extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Henry Surtees. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
The FIA is awaiting a report into the incident.'
