Jousse: Every point counts

09 July 2009

Julien Jousse is predicting the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship will be contested until the very last race as he gears up for rounds seven and eight at Brands Hatch.

With four winners from the opening six races - and nine different vistors to the podium - Jousse insists that every point is precious and that consistency could be the key to winning a test with the AT&T Williams F1 Team.

"The championship uses the same points table as Formula One, with ten points for a win, and this makes every point very important," Jousse explained. "Other series are different - for instance in Formula Renault 3.5 you get 12 or 15 points for a win - but in F2 points are harder to come by, so the smallest margins can make a big difference."

Jousse has lived by his mantra this season, and is the only driver to have scored points in more than four races this season. "Coming into Brands Hatch I will be happy if I finish on the podium or if I finish fifth - it is still good to be picking up points" he said.

"After Brands Hatch we will be halfway through the championship, so my target is to stay near the front and keep myself in contention. I can focus on winning a few races toward the end of the season, when for sure it could make a big difference. I think there will still be four or five drivers in the hunt going into the final few races, so the finish is going to be very close."

Jousse also admitted he had identified the likes of Robert Wickens, Andy Soucek and Mikhail Aleshin as potential challengers from the start, but that Tobias Hegewald's dominance in the last round had come as a surprise.

"Tobias' performance at Spa was a big surprise - not just that he won both races, but that he was fastest in every session over the weekend. He had an advantage in terms of recent experience of the circuit, but it is unusual for a driver to be fastest in every session. Drivers seem to have good and bad weekends, so Brands Hatch could be very interesting!"
