Aleshin also on top in second session

Mikhail Aleshin set the fastest time in final free practice this afternoon (Friday), as rain continued to fall at Brno.

The session was interrupted by two red flag periods, but Aleshin hit the top with just over three minutes remaining. "I found a good set-up," said Aleshin. "I got lucky to get one clear lap in. I had a few incidents on the grass, but I was pushing hard. It bodes well for qualifying that I have been top twice so far today - hopefully I can repeat the feat this afternoon."

Edoardo Piscopo continued his impressive wet weather form by setting the second fastest time - the Italian having briefly gone quickest until being pipped by Aleshin. "I don't always like driving in the rain," he admitted, "but I really enjoyed that session! I made sure I had no-one in front of me - in those conditions the track is very wet so if you have someone in front of you, you can't see anything. It was scary at times, but everything ended well and I am happy to have set a good time. I am looking forward to qualifying, and we have a good wet set-up, but we can improve for sure."

Andy Soucek set the pace during a wet pre-season test at Silverstone, and the Spaniard again showed his quality in tricky conditions today. Soucek clocked the third fastest time, just 0.255s behind Aleshin. "It's always good to be in the top three, but I am aiming for more in qualifying," Soucek said. "The conditions were very tricky, and I had some big moments, but I managed to keep the car on the track. I know what I have to do for qualifying, so hopefully I can secure a strong starting position for tomorrow."

Brazilian racer Carlos Iaconelli was just outside the top three, ahead of championship leader Rob Wickens - the Red Bull-backed Canadian making steady progress during free practice, as he did in Valencia.

Nicola De Marco, Tobias Hegewald and Henri Karjalainen were sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.

The session was red flagged twice following spins for Kazim Vasiliauskas and Miloš Pavlović, both having lost control during the difficult turn two and three complex. Jack Clarke was another driver to have spun off there in the treacherous conditions, whilst Jens Höing spun at turn 13.
