High targets for Wickens

18 June 2009

Robert Wickens will be heading to the Czech Republic with high hopes this weekend after clinching race victory from both of Formula Two's season-opening encounters in Valencia at the end of May. The Canadian, who currently leads by nine points from Italy's Mirko Bortolotti, is aiming for the top step of the podium again at Brno.

By winning both of the double-header's races in Spain, Wickens' name will go down in history as the first F2 winner in the championship's modern form. "I have set the bar pretty high for myself after the results I had in Valencia," he said. "I couldn't have dreamed of the first round going any better, but that's the past now and I know where I need to improve and how to do it."

With just under four seconds at the finish being the closest gap in either of the two Spanish races, Rob has good reason to be optimistic again although the championship's alternating engineers procedure could throw a number of variables into the mix. "I can't wait for Brno," Wickens added. "I think it will be very exciting!"
