Edoardo Piscopo has finished fastest of the twenty-two drivers in the new-look Formula Two's second timed practice session in Valencia. The Italian Formula 3 runner-up of last year set the pace in the second half-hour session of the day, quicker than Austria's Philippe Eng by just under three tenths of a second.

Despite being slower than Andy Soucek's morning time by eight tenths of a second, Piscopo's lap of 1.28.599 was good enough to top the final classification of the day. Behind Eng was Brazilian Carlos Iaconelli with Mikhail Aleshin fourth; practice 1's quickest man Soucek dropped to fifth in the afternoon as several drivers improved their lap times in the last knockings of the session.

"It felt great," said Piscopo, whose name was at P1. "I didn't expect to be that fast - I thought I would maybe be in the top ten but didn't think I would be fastest!" Just behind, Eng was not 100 percent happy with his effort. "My lap wasn't perfect," the 19-year-old admitted. "I made a mistake going into Turn 2 so there is still some more time to find. We put a new set of tyres on at the end of the session and it seemed to work well."

Soucek was not unhappy with fifth having been at the top until the final minutes, although a happier Sebastian Hohenthal jumped up from 16th in the morning to second for much of the afternoon before Soucek down the order to sixth at the end of the session.

There were no stoppages in the afternoon as in the morning, although marshals were forced to make use of the yellow flags when Englishman Jolyon Palmer and Jack Clark suffered from spins. There is all to play for in Spain now as the first qualifying session will be taking place at 5:30pm local time (GMT +1).
