Henry Surtees admits his strong testing performance at Silverstone has given him a lot of confidence going into the opening round of the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship at Valencia this weekend (29-31 May).
Surtees topped the time sheets by over a second at Silverstone after set-up changes and new tyres led to a significant boost in performance. Having ended the previous test at Snetterton as the 16th fastest driver, Henry made the biggest improvement of any driver between the two tests, and the 18-year-old is hoping the trend continues going into Valencia.
"Silverstone was a very impressive day for me," Surtees admitted. "Arriving at a proper Grand Prix circuit I thought we have to see what we can do and really push it."
Speaking exclusively to F2TV, Surtees explained how the performance of the Williams JPH1 has made him confident ahead of the opening round at Valencia. "In the first session we only did three flying laps but still ended up being fifth fastest. We made a number of set-up changes and found half a second after lunch. We then put on a new set of tyres and gained 2.5 seconds which is a big boost ahead of Valencia.
"I think we can definitely be in the top six in Spain and I have a lot of confidence in the car now so it should be a good weekend. I'll be disappointed if it's not!"
