Pace hotter than expected for Piscopo

Edoardo Piscopo was surprised at the general speed of the Formula Two field after joining the test at Snetterton on Wednesday. The Italian F3 star, who enjoyed a test run in Ferrari's Formula 1 challenger last year, joins the brand-new F2 series for this first season as he takes the place of Jens Hoing.

"The level of competition is above my expectations," 21-year-old Italian Piscopo said. "It is really high, but that is exactly how F2 should be. I think one thousandth of a second can really make a difference and the fight for pole position is going to be really tough at every race." Having first competed in karts at the age of 12, Piscopo moved to Indianapolis five years later in order to compete in the Formula BMW USA championship. Since then he has competed in Formula Renault and the F3 Euroseries as well as claiming second overall in the Italian F3 championship of 2008.

"The car feels really fast and it has good downforce levels," Edoardo, son of a Rome magazine editor, continued. "It is fun to drive and you really feel the turbo going down the straight - it's really powerful. It is a demanding car and it will be a great experience and good fun. The power boost is definitely going to help with overtaking, so I think there will be some good racing."

He concluded by adding that it is a 'pleasure and honour' to be taking part in the inaugural F2 championship and is keen to start the new season in Valencia at the end of the month.
