Head pleased with progress made

29 April 2009

Patrick Head is delighted to see the progress being made on the Formula Two project as the Williams-constructed cars prepare to race for the first time at Valencia in just over a month's time. The MotorSport Vision-run championship will be contested at eight race meetings in six countries from May to November.

"It was great to see the car reach the speeds and targets that Jonathan Palmer (former F1 driver and head of MotorSport Vision) specified at the design stage, when it tested," Williams' director of engineering said, who spectated at the Bedford Autodrome on Thursday of last week. "I was hugely impressed with what I saw when I went to see the assembly process. The team have put in a huge amount of work and though there is still a lot to do; there is confidence that they will get the job done."

The series will feature a selection of big names ranging from Brundle to Palmer to Surtees, as the younger generation look to emulate their fathers' achievements in motorsport. "Williams obviously has a vested interest in the F2 project, and I am very keen to see it get off the ground and have a fantastic start," Head continued. "It has been a hell of a challenge for MotorSport Vision to produce a new car and establish a new championship and we wish them well, but we will also be keeping a close eye on the championship and helping them out where we can."

24 cars will be making the starting grid of the first rounds in Spain, and will be returning to the country again for the season finale at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya on 1 November.
