Sir Frank Williams has expressed his optimism towards the new-look Formula 2 series, in which all of the cars will be constructed by Williams Grand Prix engineering. Sir Frank spoke to GPUpdate.net this afternoon at Brands Hatch, scene of the offical launch of the series in its modern form.
"When I first heard about this, I wasn't particularly impressed - I feared it would take resources away from Formula One," the team founder explained to GPUpdate.net. He continued "It has been a lesson for me - I don't know how you can go racing so cheaply."

F2 will see all all cars competing with Williams-built chassis powered by Audi engines with tyres supplied by Avon. When asked if this could be a proving ground for future Formula One World Champions, Mr. Williams explained how "That is unimportant now. There are so many factors."
He went on to express his feelings on what he believes are the main highlights of the series: "It's very strong and very affordable. Very important for young people." The MotorSport Vision-run championship's first line-up already contains several famous surnames as the younger generation looks to impress; Jolyon Palmer, Henry Surtees and Alex Brundle are all looking to emulate their famous fathers as they compete against the likes of Spanish star Andy Soucek and Canadian hotshot Robert Wickens.
