Nicola De Marco became the latest addition to the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship line-up. De Marco joins on the back of a successful season in Formula 3 Spain, where he won races at Albacete and Spa-Francorchamps - a circuit Formula Two will visit this year. De Marco guided his car to an impressive fourth in the overall championship despite a number of reliability issues, and recorded further top four finishes at Vallelunga and Magny-Cours. He also competed against fellow F2 driver Natacha Gachnang in the series.

18-year-old De Marco only began his single seater career in 2006 in Formula Azzurra, where he immediately demonstrated race-winning pace by taking victory in three of the 14 races and finishing third in the final standings. Having made the step up to Formula 3 Italy in 2007, De Marco strung together a superb ten consecutive top-four finishes. He showed consistent improvement through the season, taking his maiden pole in race 14, and ended the year sixth in the championship.
Nicola said: "As soon as they told me about a championship whose strong point lies in the equality of the cars, leaving it up to the drivers to demonstrate their own ability, I understood right away that F2 was my destiny. I still have a lot to learn in racing, so competing on an equal footing against other talented drivers can only help me in the future. I'm certain that it will be a great championship, and I look forward to being able to race and confront myself with the other high calibre drivers that have signed up. Whatever I end up achieving in my career, I will always be able to say that I was one of the 24 drivers involved in the first season of the resurrected FIA Formula Two Championship."
