Hohenthal first Swedish driver to sign up for F2

19 December 2008

Swedish driver Sebastian Hohenthal has today been announced as the seventh competitor to sign up for the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship. Hohenthal has been competing in the British F3 International Series for the last two years - taking a total of two wins and eight podiums. He also won the 2006 Formula Renault 2.0 UK Championship, scoring seven victories.

The 24 year old Swede said: "I'm delighted to be joining Formula Two in 2009. For me the new F2 championship couldn't have been any better timed and with Williams being involved in the project, there is no doubt that the cars will be fantastic as well."

Hohenthal already has his eyes on the championship prize of a Williams F1 test drive as he seeks to emulate the success of previous F2 frontrunners from his homeland: "F2 has a proud history and next year we will race at great circuits with strong competition," said Hohenthal. "I look up to drivers like Ronnie Peterson, who became something of a national hero when he graduated to Formula One having won the Formula Two Championship in 1971. It has been a long time since Sweden has had a driver in F1, but hopefully I can end the wait.

"I have a lot of belief in the car, the management and the talent of the other drivers, people like Robert Wickens and Julien Jousse. I'm really excited to be in a championship that will be brilliant preparation for Formula One."
