19 year-old Wickens joins F2 in a partnership between the series and Red Bull Racing. Wickens has been a member of the Red Bull Junior Team since 2006, and won the Formula BMW USA Championship in the same year with the support of the energy drink manufacturer. He has competed for Canada in A1GP, scoring the team's sole victory during the 2007/8 season, as well as representing Red Bull in Formula 3 Euro Series and World Series by Renault. In addition, Wickens has been involved in live street demonstrations of the Red Bull Formula One race car.
Robert Wickens said: "For me the decision to be in Formula Two is a no-brainer. The design of the cars and calibre of the prize means it will be one of the most competitive series around. It's also hard to see any other series competing with F2 at the moment in terms of price, so it's a great move for me in all senses. I would love to follow Jacques Villeneuve and be the next Canadian in Formula One, and hopefully I can achieve that through success in F2."
